The diagnosis of the Territorial Climate Air Energy Plan provides precise information on the area's energy consumption, its evolution and our capacity to produce renewable energy locally.

In 2022, the Communauté de communes Cœur de France consumed around 464 GWh of final energy, or around 25 MWh per inhabitant. This consumption is close to the departmental and regional averages, which places our region in a similar dynamic to that of other rural areas.

Road transport is the largest consumer, accounting for 39 % of the total. This reflects the region's heavy reliance on the private car and the importance of road traffic flows, particularly linked to the presence of the A71 motorway. The residential sector comes second with 30 % of consumption, due to a housing stock made up mainly of detached houses, which are often old and sometimes poorly insulated. The tertiary sector accounts for 15 % of consumption and industry for around 13 %. Agriculture completes the picture with a more modest but structuring share.

Since 2008, the region's energy consumption has fallen. This is an encouraging trend, but it needs to be stepped up if we are to meet the national target of halving energy consumption by 2050.

Reducing our consumption: a priority lever

The analysis shows that the region has significant potential for reducing its energy consumption.

In the residential sector, thermal renovation of housing is the main lever. A large proportion of the housing stock was built before the first thermal regulations were introduced. Insulating buildings, improving heating systems and adopting more frugal behaviour can all lead to significant energy savings.

In the transport sector, there is considerable scope for progress by reducing the number of journeys that have to be made, developing car-sharing, improving vehicle performance and changing mobility practices.

The tertiary and industrial sectors also have potential for improving energy efficiency, in particular by renovating buildings, optimising equipment and controlling usage.

Overall, if all the levers were activated, the region could significantly reduce its energy consumption by 2050. Energy conservation and efficiency are therefore absolute priorities.

Producing local, renewable energy

In 2022, the region produced around 61 GWh of renewable energy. This represents around 13 % of total energy consumption. Current production comes mainly from wood energy, used for heating, and the development of photovoltaic solar energy.

However, the potential for developing renewable energies is much greater. Studies show that the region has significant capacity for photovoltaic solar energy, wind power, methanisation, wood energy and geothermal energy. In the long term, renewable energy production could far exceed current levels and cover all consumption if projects are developed in a coherent and concerted manner.

However, the development of renewable energies must go hand in hand with the adaptation of electricity and gas networks to guarantee the stability and quality of supply.

Our commitment to the energy transition

Our energy strategy is based on a simple principle: consume less and produce better.

The first priority is to reduce energy consumption by renovating buildings, using less energy and changing the way we travel. The second is to develop local renewable energies that are adapted to the region's characteristics.

This energy transition must be a collective one. It involves local authorities, businesses, farmers and residents. It will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce our energy bills and make our region more self-sufficient.

The Climate Plan defines this trajectory. It aims to build a territory that is more sober, more autonomous and more resilient in the face of climate and economic change.

Comprendre la situation énergétique de notre territoire L’énergie est au cœur des enjeux climatiques et économiques.
