Regional vulnerability to climate change

Territorial vulnerability is defined as the fragility of an area in different respects: social, economic, demographic, financial, natural or climatic.

An area's vulnerability to climate change depends not only on the intensity of the hazards to which it is exposed, but also on its sensitivity and capacity to adapt. Each region has its own physical, social, economic and environmental characteristics that determine its vulnerability.

An area whose ecosystems are degraded and where urbanisation is poorly controlled will be more exposed to impacts. Conversely, the preservation of natural environments, economic diversification and citizen involvement strengthen resilience.
