Biodiversity

The Cœur de France community of municipalities has a significant natural heritage with a number of habitats (hedged farmland, limestone grasslands and woods, wetlands, etc.) and species at stake (Shrikes, Yellow-bellied Sounder, Succise's Damier, Bacchante, Pulsatile Anemone, etc.).

The Community of Communes is located at the crossroads of several of the Cher's natural regions: the Champagne Berrichonne, with its cereal-growing areas and limestone woods; the Boischaut and the Germigny Valley, with their hedged farmland and predominantly grassland.

As far as rivers are concerned, the Cher Valley runs mainly through the communauté de communes, with a strong presence of the Canal de Berry, but there are other basins in the area: the Arnon Valley and the Auron Valley. The Arnon and the Trian, one of its tributaries which rises in the area, flow through the area, giving rise to wetlands of interest, particularly wet meadows.

Some of the Coeur de France communes are also involved in the Regional Nature Park project run by the «Pays Berry Saint-Amandois» joint association.

The elected representatives of the communauté de communes would like to keep better track of this heritage and the biodiversity it supports, in order to preserve it more effectively and make it better known, both to local residents and to tourists who come to discover the Berry countryside. To this end, the communauté de communes wishes to carry out an inter-communal Atlas of Biodiversity. The elected representatives wish to have a mapped and documented diagnosis, references on the species present, and management recommendations adapted to the challenges of the area.

Through the creation of an inter-communal ABC, the communauté de communes wishes to :

  • To improve knowledge of the natural heritage in its area and to have an inventory of naturalist knowledge (fauna, flora and habitats) relating to this heritage during this ABC period; ;
  • Raising awareness, informing and mobilising local residents (elected representatives, citizens, socio-economic players) about the challenges of preserving biodiversity and the proper management and restoration of natural environments; ;
  • Take greater account of biodiversity when implementing development projects and actions to preserve and enhance this heritage; ;

How can you take part?

As part of the ABC project, the Communauté de communes and the associations Nature 18 and CPIE Brenne Berry will be organising events and awareness-raising activities such as:

  • Contributions from the public (comments, reports, feedback).
  • Educational projects
  • Public meetings
  • Awareness-raising events
  • Nature outings and inventories,
